CHIETA Industrial Futures Bursary 2026 Funding for chemical industry studies

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) is offering the Industrial Futures Bursary for 2026. This bursary helps young South Africans pay for studies in fields related to the chemical and manufacturing industries. It’s perfect if you want a career in engineering, chemistry, lab work, or manufacturing — and need help with tuition costs.

Who can apply?

You must meet all these requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be unemployed
  • Aged 16–35 years
  • Have finished Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Got at least 75% overall average in Matric
  • Have acceptance (or registration) for 2026 at a public university or TVET college
  • Come from a household with a combined income of R600,000 or less per year

Priority is given to students with strong marks and demonstrated financial need.

What does the bursary pay for?

  • Tuition fees — up to R76,000 per year
  • Textbooks and other approved academic costs (when funds are available)

This support allows you to focus on your studies without financial worries.

Fields of study supported

The bursary covers qualifications linked to the chemical and manufacturing sectors, such as:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Industrial Chemistry
  • Polymer Science
  • Biotechnology
  • Process Engineering
  • Laboratory Technology
  • Environmental Science
  • Manufacturing Technology

Both university degrees and TVET college programmes qualify if they match industry needs.

How to apply

Applications are online only.

  1. Go to the CHIETA bursary system
  2. Create an account
  3. Fill in the application form
  4. Upload your documents
  5. Submit before the deadline

Documents you’ll usually need:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID
  • Matric certificate
  • Proof of acceptance or registration from the university/TVET college
  • Academic transcripts (if you have them)
  • Proof of household income

  • Applications close: 27 February 2026 at 15:00 (3:00 PM)
